Damping Off on summer squash

Detailed guidance for this section is being prepared. Check back soon.

Symptoms on summer squash

  • Seedlings collapsing at the soil line
  • Stems pinched and dark at base
  • Failure to emerge ('pre-emergence' damping-off)
  • Whole flats of seedlings dying suddenly

IPM controls

  • Use sterile seed-starting mix (do not reuse old potting soil)
  • Bottom-water rather than top-water seedlings
  • Provide good air circulation (small fan)
  • Avoid overwatering — soil should dry between waterings
  • Sterilize containers between uses with 10% bleach solution
